05:20 <quail> you still working on that

05:20 <CoderForLife> so others can write and test their own rules

05:20 <CoderForLife> still?!

05:21 <quail> i thought you finished that weeks ago

05:21 <CoderForLife> I started modifying the rules engine for a bunch of new support about 3 weeks ago

05:21 <CoderForLife> I work on it about 3 hours a day

05:22 <CoderForLife> except weekends, where I can do more

05:22 <quail> :-)

05:22 <CoderForLife> I added new things like being able to call between rulesets

05:23 <CoderForLife> and the rules flowcharter is running - but needs a bit of tweaking

05:24 <CoderForLife> so - yeah - I "still working on" it

05:26 <CoderForLife> quail - did you see the link I posted last night?

17:04 <MTughan> Because you're getting no response... Hello, CoderForLife.

17:05 <CoderForLife> hello MTughan - thx for the response =)

17:05 <PovAddict> CoderForLife: frames are evil

17:05 <CoderForLife> it does prove this microphone is on

17:05 <CoderForLife> depends on how frames are used, PovAddict

17:05 <MTughan> Use JS and AJAX if you must have that functionality.

17:06 <CoderForLife> a frame is perfect for this need

17:06 <MTughan> Remeber, XMLHttpRequests are your friend.

17:06 <PovAddict> CoderForLife: what is the need exactly?

17:07 <xcamel> 'lo CFL

17:07 <MTughan> Better not throw that around too much... CFL stands for the Canadian Football League too.

17:07 <PovAddict> and compact fluorescent lamp too

17:08 <MTughan> True, true...

17:08 <CoderForLife> I am launching a unit test execution of a ruleset from my rules engine.  A separate window is needed, because the rules engine maintains state in the browser via hidden, encrypted fields in the HTML page (like .NET does).  There are two parts to the launched window - a controls section/frame that shows the status of the ruleset under unit test, and a frame that contains the ruleset output.

17:09 <PovAddict> ah, that seems ok...

17:09 <CoderForLife> lol  "throw" and "football", and xcamel...

17:10 <MTughan> Yeah, looks nice...

17:10 <CoderForLife> iframe would be too limiting

17:10 <MTughan> Yeah.

17:10 <CoderForLife> nope - not framing anyones's page

18:10 <MTughan> Just downloads more?

18:10 <PovAddict> feels like whac-a-mole

18:10 <MTughan> In the projects tab, you can tell it not to download more work per project.

18:10 <PovAddict> I suspend the long ufluids WU, and it starts a new sudoku WU (even though there are other *two* ufluids ones that have already started and are suspended)

18:11 <PovAddict> I suspend sudoku project, and it resumes an Enigma@Home WU

18:47 <CoderForLife> what kind of javascript event will fire when a browser page loads, besides the onload() of the body?

18:48 <MTughan> Do you need one, or is it a trivia question?

18:48 <PovAddict> that's what onload is for...

18:48 <CoderForLife> yeah, I need one, else I will have to dynamcially modify the existing onload() of a page when I add some javascript to it

18:48 <MTughan> That's simple.

18:48 <MTughan> document.body.onload, I think.

18:49 <CoderForLife> yes, but it already exists - in one special case, it needs to do something in addition

18:49 <MTughan> Maybe put in another function...

18:49 <CoderForLife> the special case code needs to be generated on the fly

18:50 <MTughan> Wait, how will this work? Are you generating the JS dynamically on a server-side app?

18:50 <CoderForLife> ah, maybe I can call my special function if it exists

18:50 <PovAddict> document.onload2 = document.onload;

18:50 <PovAddict> document.onload = function() { document.onload2(); other_stuff(); };

18:50 <PovAddict> maybe?

18:50 <MTughan> If you modify the onload tag in the actual page, the onload tag has already been run.

18:50 <CoderForLife> yeah - generating the javascript in the server

18:50 <PovAddict> ah in the server...

18:51 <MTughan> So just use an if statement and a string to hold the onload. What language is it anyway?

18:51 <CoderForLife> I have an onload() that runs for all instances of the pages, this one instance needs another function to window.open() my frameset page

18:52 <MTughan> No, what language is used server-side?

18:52 <PovAddict> add some server-side hook there... on the code that outputs the onload

18:52 <CoderForLife> I heard you - PHP

18:52 <MTughan> $onload = "onloadFunction();"; if(needMore) $onload .= "moreFunctions();";

18:53 <CoderForLife> you're right Pov - it's just "way down" the code, and I was hoping not to have to put a big old "dependency" in there

18:53 <CoderForLife> but that's what I'll do

18:53 <CoderForLife> thx for the advice, all

18:59 <PovAddict> and CPDN has proven it

18:59 * CoderForLife nods - that's his strategy

18:59 <Starfury^> making PC's run at 100% CPU time all the time, making the PC pull as much electricity as it is able to for cooling and cpu, and the fact the machine is then on 24/7 and then the cooling for the room because of that

19:08 <codewarrior_> :-p

19:08 <Starfury^> even if the monitor is off your gfx card still uses juice

19:08 <Starfury^> the UPS's are 1kva each and i have 4 of them

19:08 <PovAddict> more dust, more heat, faster fans

19:08 <Starfury^> APC SmartUPS rack mount jobs

19:08 <PovAddict> and btw, newer gfx cards eat power

19:09 <codewarrior_> each UPS will consume more power (individually) than your CPU maxed out I assure you

19:09 <Starfury^> yeh

19:09 <Starfury^> the nvidia 8800's use like 300W

19:09 <Starfury^> i think

19:09 <Starfury^> or is it 270

19:09 <PovAddict> WTF

19:09 <xcamel> back again

19:09 <efc> not idle, i hope

19:09 <PovAddict> I have a 8600GT

19:09 <PovAddict> efc: there's no such thing as an idle gfx card if you run Vista, remember that

19:09 <efc> oh

19:10 <PovAddict> your windows are made of glass, etc

19:10 <Starfury^> hang on

19:10 <efc> you've probably got worse problems if you're on vista

19:10 <Starfury^> checking

19:10 <Starfury^> quoted power consumption is 175W

19:10 <Starfury^> must be an SLI system i was looking at before

19:11 <Starfury^> so SLI with 8800's is 350W

19:12 <codewarrior_> so why run SLI on a boinc machine!! :-p

19:12 <Starfury^> errrr boinc machine?

19:12 <codewarrior_> Unless you're using CUDA of course

19:12 <Starfury^> isnt boinc run on whatever machine ya got

19:12 <PovAddict> Starfury^: some people have "dedicated BOINC machines"

19:12 <Starfury^> you dont dedicate machines to boinc do you

19:12 <Starfury^> why?

19:12 <Starfury^> what a waste

19:12 <PovAddict> I don't, definitely

19:13 <PovAddict> some people do, not my problem

19:13 <Starfury^> lol

19:13 <Starfury^> it will be when the polar icecaps melt

19:14 <Starfury^> and no i cant use the power switch on the wall as they go through the ups

19:15 <Starfury^> yeh, but it wont do 5 at a time

19:15 <Starfury^> and i need a wee

19:27 <codewarrior_> would still go with the quad, unless you're a gamer

19:29 <codewarrior_> MTughan: not too sure about that.... most upcoming games are so hard on physics processing, you'll need a dedicated physics card soon imho

19:29 <efc> Assuming a Fairchild 9445 as the cpu, of course

19:29 <codewarrior_> of course

19:29 <MTughan> I thought all of that was handled on the GPU...

19:29 <PovAddict> physics on GPU isn't very easy

19:30 <MTughan> Guess I need to touch up on my hardware.

19:30 <codewarrior_> and $$$

19:30 <PovAddict> plus, current games are probably maxing out the GPU with the lighting part anyway

19:30 <codewarrior_> confirmed, X6800 is 2.93Ghz

19:30 <MTughan> Yeah... The most recent game I run I think it Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2.

19:30 <codewarrior_> PovAddict: agreed, bioshock knocks a 2.3Ghz duo with 8600GT already

19:41 <codewarrior_> MTughan: Your mobo, drives, peripheral cards all draw power...

19:45 <codewarrior_> my bad. 350GB seagate says 25.5W peak power draw

19:46 <MTughan> Ouch... I have a WD 120GB and a Seagate 160GB.

19:46 <codewarrior_> might be more, older drives are definitely draws more juice
