03:45 <lubomir> hello. i have a problem with boinc. i installed it yesterday under linux (gentoo linux over portage) and yesterday i started it and it runs fine. but today i started the computer again and get again tha mistake: Authorization failed connecting to running client. Make sure you start this program in the same directory as the client.    I got it first time i started boinc before i had configured everything

03:46 <lubomir> boinc is in the default runlevel and starts with the computer

03:46 <Soul_keeper> boinc_client --daemon

03:47 <Soul_keeper> you need to add that to a startup script or something so everytime you boot it starts, or just type it manually

03:47 <lubomir> and at the moment i can see in "top" that my cpu is running 100% because the boinc deamon is running

03:47 <lubomir> yes,its added. it starts everytime i boot

03:48 <lubomir> but the boinc-gui didnt find it

03:48 *** andresgr has joined #boinc

03:48 <Soul_keeper> i don't trust distro installs myself

03:48 <Soul_keeper> better off just snagging the latest from the boinc site and installing it yourself

03:49 <Soul_keeper> atleast then you'll understand how it works

03:49 <lubomir> yesterday i had to give the computername (localhost) and the password from /var/lib/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg

03:51 <lubomir> does i need the boinc_gui?

03:52 <lubomir> because /etc/init.d/boinc is in the default boot level and starts with the system. the system is running at 100% at the moment because of boinc, so it seems that boinc is doing its job

03:53 <ChristianB> you need something like boincmgr or run_manager to get the gui working on linux

03:54 <ChristianB> this scripts should be in the same directory where the init script starts the boinc_client

03:54 <lubomir> the things i have are: boinc_client  boinc_cmd     boinc_gui

03:55 <ChristianB> what version is this boinc client?

03:55 <lubomir> 5.8.15

03:56 <ChristianB> hm than running boinc_gui from within the working directory should work

03:56 <lubomir> the scripts you talked about, where boinc is in, are not there

03:56 <lubomir> where is that directory?

03:57 <lubomir> must i run boinc_gui as root?

03:58 <yoyo[RKN]> no

03:58 <yoyo[RKN]> moin

03:58 <lubomir> moin

03:58 <ChristianB> I found a small hint within the package installation script

03:58 <ChristianB> # Add warning about the new password for the client, bug 121896.

03:58 <ChristianB> einfo "If you need to use the graphical client the password is in "

03:58 <ChristianB> einfo "/var/lib/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg which is randomly generated "

03:58 <ChristianB> einfo "by BOINC upon successfully running the gui for the first time."

03:58 <ChristianB> einfo "You can change this to something more memorable."

03:59 <ChristianB> thats the password to look at to your problem mentioned in your first message today

04:00 <ChristianB> Hi yoyo[RKN]

04:00 <yoyo[RKN]> morgen ChristianB

04:01 <lubomir> deutsch?

04:01 <yoyo[RKN]> muah

04:01 <yoyo[RKN]> 3 deutsche reden engl.

04:03 <yoyo[RKN]> linux?

04:04 <lubomir> ja

04:04 <lubomir> http://rafb.net/p/fjVVZU99.html

04:04 <Romulus> Title: Nopaste - No description (at rafb.net)

Make sure you start this program in the same directory as t

04:16 <lubomir> he client.

04:16 <lubomir> manager? wo ist der den?

04:17 <yoyo[RKN]> boinc_gui

04:18 <yoyo[RKN]> was sagt "ps -ef | grep boinc" ?

04:19 <lubomir> http://rafb.net/p/wlhpyy31.html

04:19 <Romulus> Title: Nopaste - No description (at rafb.net)

04:20 <yoyo[RKN]> ok, luft

Make sure you start this program in the same directory as the client.

04:23 <lubomir> :-P

04:26 * ChristmasCoder wakes up, and tries to read #boinc

04:26 <ChristmasCoder> Merry Christmas

04:26 <yoyo[RKN]> morning ChristmasCoder

04:27 <ChristianB> mornin ChristmasCoder and Merry Christmas to you too

04:28 <ChristmasCoder> hello yoyo and ChristianB - I'm going downstairs for breakfast and presents opening

04:29 <ChristmasCoder> bbl

04:29 <ChristmasCoder> =)

04:32 <lubomir> okay,werde dies dann ausprobieren. danke@all

04:33 <ChristianB> yoyo[RKN] and ChristmasCoder: What about this(http://www.os-tools.net/hoteditor/index_mini.html) new wysiwyg editor for boinc message boards, profile pages and so on?

05:33 <ChristianB> I'm thinking what buttons the boinc community would need at most?

05:34 *** andresgr_ has joined #boinc

05:35 <LumpyLarry> well if mostly for business setting - not the smileys then

05:35 <LumpyLarry> thats more for informal settings

05:36 <LumpyLarry> hotlinks sound good highlighting and general editing also

05:36 <ChristianB> I would prefer the standard formatings size, color, bold, underline, italic, strike-throug, link to, pre and/or code

05:37 <LumpyLarry> true all the bells and whistles of rtf not needed

05:38 <LumpyLarry> standard fonts also

05:38 <ChristianB> lists and numberings should be there too

05:39 <ChristianB> what about cut, copy and paste? Do we need buttons for this?

05:41 *** desti_T2 is now known as desti

10:05 <MTughan> How come?

10:06 <xcamel> she's still using her old imac, and a now nearly dead hp laptop

10:07 <xcamel> and the wife got her an i-touch

10:07 <MTughan> iPhone or iPod Touch?

10:07 <xcamel> ipod touch

10:08 <MTughan> The only thing I don't like about those is that they come with max 16GB.

10:08 <MTughan> I have an older iPod video that has double that.

10:08 <xcamel> this is the 8gb I think, which is enough for her

10:08 <MTughan> I guess if you're not putting too many videos on, it would be.

10:09 <xcamel> she has mostly music

10:09 <MTughan> I've used 8.8GB on my iPod, and I have quite a few movies on it too. :P

10:10 <xcamel> she's happy - that's what counts

10:10 <xcamel> and she has a friend who knows how to load games and stuff on it...

10:10 <MTughan> Marx Bros, A Day at the Races, Star Wars 3, The French Connection, and a guitar festival hosted by Eric Clapton.

10:11 <MTughan> Wow... Picked up a peer on BitTorrent who's giving me 400+KB/s on a download of Fedora...

10:12 <MTughan> I like it...

10:13 <MTughan> Or course, over 3.3GB, still gonna take about 2hrs.

10:14 <xcamel> I think it would take a year to watch all that Dr Who

10:14 <MTughan> lol

10:14 <xcamel> --every single episode-- ever, on DVD

10:15 <MTughan> That's... uh... quite a few...

10:15 <xcamel> it's a very large box.

10:15 <MTughan> How many DVDs?

10:15 <xcamel> I was quite suprised..

16:58 * PovAddict finds <xxx> easier to type than [xxx]... silly bbcode...

16:58 <ChristianB> but the set of buttons can be copied from wysiwyg to bbcode mode

16:58 <PovAddict> I hate wysiwig editors in general...

16:59 <PovAddict> type "hello world", make it bold, select 'hello' and remove bold, select 'world' and remove bold... now you have "hello[b] [/b]world" and you don't even know it

17:01 <ChristianB> I updated the script so can't switch anymore

17:02 <ChristianB> I don't like them too but davea requested such a feature

17:02 <PovAddict> better be optional or I'll kill somebody :)

17:02 <ChristianB> but it should be possible to detect such empty tags and delete them before writing into the DB

17:03 <PovAddict> that's even worse, code trying to be smart and automatically changing what I did

17:03 <ChristianB> yeah I'm working on the no-JS fallback

17:07 <LumpyLarry> ohh this is nice 250 pkg updates and lots more dependancy to dl

17:17 <PovAddict> you need to have javascript code replace the normal editor with the wysiwyg

20:52 <MTughan> Heh, I do wish. :P

20:52 <FreeLarry> oh but new software makes new machine ;)

20:53 <MTughan> True... And "upgrading" from XP to Vista is a downgrade.

20:53 * FreeLarry wishes it were so as he startes at gutted 486sx machine

20:53 <FreeLarry> maybe why the new machine i put together has f7 on it

20:53 <MTughan> F7? F8

20:54 <MTughan> ..'s been out for a little while.

20:54 <FreeLarry> now for the learning curve stayed with 7 as had the disks here from when i bought the books

20:55 <MTughan> Anyway, I'll bbl. Gonna install Leopard...

20:55 <FreeLarry> 1025 packages on initial install with 250 packages update and a few more dependancy's thrown in

20:55 <FreeLarry> good luck

20:55 *** MTughan has quit IRC

20:55 <Soul_keeper> that's a lot of packages for xmas ...

21:00 <wdsmia> err had

21:00 <wdsmia> burgers would have been better

21:02 *** Aeternus has quit IRC

21:06 <Soul_keeper> wdsmia,  that's ok, there's always new years :)

21:06 <wdsmia> will be just another Tuesday

21:07 <FreeLarry> still on last nights leftovers here Soul_keeper

21:07 <Soul_keeper> i had steak and a baked potatoe last night tho

21:07 <FreeLarry> only present was to the house - upstairs carpeting replaced by new lamenant flooring

21:07 <Soul_keeper> fired up my 20 dollar walmart charcoal grill with some gasoline and a match

21:08 * FreeLarry wondered what that was that flew overhead going DAAHHH

21:11 <PovAddict> we had too few fireworks for xmas

21:11 <PovAddict> couldn't do anything fun...

21:11 <PovAddict> y'know, exploding several at a time, etc

21:13 <FreeLarry> ahh i think its still legal for new years but elsewise not till 4th of july now

21:13 <PovAddict> legal?

21:15 <FreeLarry> legal to shoot fireworks off that is msot time gt you a ticket

21:15 <PovAddict> wow weird

21:15 <PovAddict> people shoot fireworks after football matches here

21:15 <efc> yeah Pov lots of states ban fireworks to some extent

21:16 <efc> because people in the US are retarded

21:16 <efc> and we need laws to protect us from ourselves

21:16 <PovAddict> uh, no

21:16 <PovAddict> that goes against natural selection

21:16 <PovAddict> :)

21:17 <efc> The law should be, not a prohibition, but a requirement for a MINIMUM size firework. So there will be no injuries, only fatalities.

21:17 <PovAddict> yeah...

21:17 <PovAddict> those retarded enough *should* blow themselves up

21:20 <efc> we write our laws to protect the stupidest people we've got

21:20 <efc> I saw a little barge of fireworks blow up once.. it was awesome

21:20 <efc> you could see the silhouetts of the people jumping in the water

21:22 <PovAddict> that's why you *still* have the stupidest people...

21:25 <FreeLarry> well darwin awards still need to be handed out ;)

21:25 <PovAddict> exactly! if you want to hand out more awards, stop protecting the idiots from themselves!

21:26 <FreeLarry> as well as trying to protect those smart enough not to blow themselves up from setting fire to everyoone else
