11:14 <jackygrahamez> ok so I'm still trying to figure out this issue with gromacs. apparently it works ok if it references its dependencies through variables, but not it has a little trouble when all the dependencies are in the same directory...I could either hard code the references or set variables at run time...I'm not sure how to set variables using a wrapper

11:15 <jackygrahamez> that is i don't know if its possible to use a bash script to do that or even advised

11:16 <PovAddict> environment variables?

11:16 <PovAddict> setenv

11:17 <PovAddict> or putenv

11:17 <ELGono> hehe just wanted to mention that one ;)

11:17 <PovAddict> not sure what's the diff

11:17 <ELGono> nearly drove mad on irix without setenv

11:19 <jackygrahamez> ok that is csh

11:20 <jackygrahamez> are you saying have the wrapper execute that?

11:26 *** mweltin1 has joined #boinc

11:28 <jackygrahamez> yes it would be environmental variables

11:29 <jackygrahamez> normally the configuration runs through a source command

11:29 <jackygrahamez> is it possible to run source through a wrapper?

11:30 <jackygrahamez> I'm thinking it might be better to just hard code this in the source

11:32 *** [B^S]renemayer has quit IRC

11:36 <jackygrahamez> hmm maybe if i execute bash and include the script in command line?

11:37 <PovAddict> putenv/setenv are C functions

11:37 <PovAddict> the wrapper can set an env variable using one of those, then execute the app

11:38 <jackygrahamez> so would putenv be listed in the job file as an application?

11:38 <PovAddict> no, change the wrapper code

11:38 <jackygrahamez> I see

11:40 <PovAddict> btw, anything you can do on a shell script you can also do with POSIX function calls in a C program

11:40 <PovAddict> even pipes

11:41 <jackygrahamez> but then you have compile :-(

12:33 <FreeLarry> interesting superlink web pages up and server status shows running - wu upload after client restart - but cant fetch scheduler list to report completed

12:34 <Punky260> do you go via proxy ?

12:34 <Punky260> this helps 90% of time ;)

12:34 <Punky260> IP: 212.93.193.83 Port: 443 =)

12:37 <FreeLarry> nope just thru household lan

12:38 <FreeLarry> they been having problems with ddos attacks - after reading some comments in various shout boxes and forums - maybe well intentioned people just wanting more work that they have set up scripts to continually contact them

12:39 <FreeLarry> but have set time too close together

12:39 <FreeLarry> they should let boinc be boinc

12:39 <FreeLarry> not another bot

12:40 <Punky260> ?

12:40 <Punky260> important is just how to fix the problem ^^

12:40 <FreeLarry> optimized boinc that they set time interval for updates

12:40 <PovAddict> people apparently wrote scripts to make boinc contact superlink every minute or even less (seconds) to get work, making the problem worse :P

12:41 <FreeLarry> they need to block those ip's until the scripts removed

12:41 <PovAddict> FreeLarry: not possible

12:41 <FreeLarry> i know - wishful thinking

12:42 <PovAddict> if you're being flooded with requests, and block the "bad" requests... they're still flooding the network connection before the block

12:42 <PovAddict> so good requests still can't get in

12:43 <FreeLarry> review logs - block a few offenders first restart - and continue till gets better - or monitoring program that reviews fequency of requests and auto blocks after a set # request/time?

12:44 <FreeLarry> slowly but surely blocking offenders?

17:53 <MTughan> If I'm overclocking, and it affects the clock, would the clock be too fast or too slow?

17:54 <xcamel> fast..

17:54 <MTughan> All right.

17:55 <MTughan> Odd... Someone in Orlando Florida requested that my password be reset on DynDNS.org.

17:55 <MTughan> DynDNS.com*

17:56 <xcamel> ummm.. no.

17:59 <MTughan> I changed my password anyway, although not through the form.

18:00 <MTughan> It had been the same too long anyway.

19:27 <CoderForLife> yeah - I'm going to build an alarm for my lift station

19:28 <CoderForLife> I designed one with discrete CMOS ICs, but this one wll be better because it's Code

19:29 <CoderForLife> currently hooking a piezo electric speaker to it to create an audible alarm

19:29 <xcamel> cool.. and it will call your cell phone...

19:29 <CoderForLife> yes it can

19:30 <PovAddict> i went to the hospital last night to be checked

19:30 <PovAddict> there was a bit of a disturbing scene...

19:31 <PovAddict> woman crying at top of her lungs in the middle of the corridors

19:31 <CoderForLife> disturbing hospital is redundant

19:31 <PovAddict> "he's gone" and "whyyyy?!"

19:32 <PovAddict> based on her later screams... I think her father had died

19:32 <CoderForLife> that's one for The Big Guy to answer

19:32 <PovAddict> I thought... condolences, but please go discharge your emotions *outside* -.-

19:32 <CoderForLife> heh

19:35 <PovAddict> why do we always have to get politics involved...

19:36 <xcamel> that's not politics... it's suicide.
